Our Community group have been working on some special projects to support others in need this winter. The group have visited and donated to local charities as part of their ‘Working Together to Help Others’ project.
The Community group at Sheffield Mencap and Gateway has been enjoying working on various projects aimed at extending a helping hand to those in need within the local area. The project’s aims are not just focussed on learning, but also on making positive contributions to the community.
Throughout the year, the group has been engaged in the AQA unit ‘Working as a Team to Help Others,’ dedicated to assisting as many individuals as possible. Their efforts have included making handmade poppies for The Poppy Appeal, collecting essential items for Baby Basics and supporting the Shoebox Appeal by gathering donations and assembling Christmas gift boxes. The group aimed to bring a touch of joy to individuals who might otherwise have been overlooked during the holiday season, such as those in hostels and isolated elderly individuals.
Community Group Leader Beth explained
It’s really important that our group learn to help others and the community sees that our members are positive attributes that can be a part of the community and give back too.
The group’s collective efforts reflect a genuine desire to spread positivity and support within Sheffield, and we know they will have brought a lot of joy to others this winter.
