Members of the Activity and Learning Hub’s Drama and Creative Writing groups had the opportunity to enjoy not one but two spectacular performances this December, as they visited All Saints School and The Lyceum Theatre.
On 3rd December, members visited All Saints Roman Catholic High School for a special student performance of The School of Rock. The talented students delivered a show packed with energy and heart, staying true to the original film.
From live music performed by the school’s band to dazzling costumes, lights, and sound (all managed by the students themselves!), the production showcased an incredible range of skills. The cast brought the story to life with spirited singing, high-energy dance numbers, and fun moments where they even interacted with the audience.
A highlight for many was the Battle of the Band finale, a scene that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Members were given a warm welcome by the school, and the group left buzzing with excitement and admiration for the talented students. A huge thank you to All Saints RC High School for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic experience!
On 12th December, members were thrilled to attend the Snow White pantomime at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre. With tickets kindly donated by Sheffield Theatres, members enjoyed prime seating in the front two rows of the stalls for a show that was truly larger than life.
The star-studded cast included Catherine Tyldesley (of Coronation Street fame) as the wicked queen and Viper the Gladiator in a dazzling spectacle packed with music, humour, and audience participation.
From singalongs to moments of high drama, and of course all the classic panto moments including the favourite ‘spooky bench’ scene and lots of ‘he’s behind you’, the panto had the entire audience captivated.
I watched the members more than I watched the stage! We had people in tears when Snow White died, laughing and singing along to all the songs. They loved it.

We saw Snow White and I liked everything! We were sat on the front row – I thought one of them was going to stand on my feet! One of them had a Sheffield United t-shirt on, I liked that. There were lots of songs – I was singing along!

From rocking out to laughing along with the antics on stage, our members had a fantastic time – and seeing the work of professional writers and performers will inspire their work in drama and creative writing groups. A huge thank you to our partners for making these experiences possible.
